WP1 progress talk: mapping the mechanisms behind health service failure during floods, grounded in Wales.
This is the first work package talk from my PhD at the Data Lab for Social Good. It makes the case for a question that flood maps cannot answer: not where the water goes, but which health services stop, for whom, and for how long.
The talk walks through the problem, the way I am building the evidence base from curated literature and a machine-scaled text corpus, the mechanism map that comes out of it, and why Wales is the right place to ground all of it. It closes on the pipeline I am building to read disaster reporting at scale and turn it into coded events.
Presented with my supervisors Bahman Rostami-Tabar, Thomas Woolley, and William Bennett. The deck runs in the browser. Press S for speaker notes and F for fullscreen.
